The problem: Disabling "Password protection on wakeup" is not a solution at all for me personally, as I'm on the road with my notebook quite often, and I want to be sure that the data on my notebook isn't accessible without unlocking the screen, in case So, from my point of view, it seems to be something related to security (probably in conjunction with this hosted network stuff).

If I change the power saving option "Password protection on wakeup" from "Require a password on (recommended)" to "Don't require a password", everything is fine concerning the time period it takes to establish the WLAN connection after wakeup (that means,Įven without the NETSH commands as described in this thread). Set to "Allowed" again - and that means, the next time my machine wakes up from sleep mode, it again takes ages (~30 - 50 seconds) before the WLAN-connections gets re-established.ĭoes anybody know how I can get the mode=disallow to be persisted?Īnother interesting fact I found before I ran over the solution using those NETSH commands: One time - as soon as I wake up my machine from sleeping after running this, the WLAN connection gets re-established quickly (less than 5 seconds) but when I check the status with "netsh wlan show hostednetwork" then, the result is that the mode is IOW, running the two commands in an elevated Command Prompt helps exactly

If I have any future issues I will update this post just to make it visible to anybody who might be researching the issue in the future.I've been asked by a Support Engineer at the Microsoft Answers forum to re-create my problem here within the TechNet forum, because it is more complex than what's typically handled there. Again the microsoft adaptors are still there so I suppose it will be a case of waiting to see if they start interfering with things after future shutdowns.įor now it looks fixed, so I will mark this post as such. It connected to my wifi automatically so that is a win. I checked in the list of network adaptors and there were 2 of the microsoft virtual adapters hidden. I signed back in after the restart and entered the password for my wifi, and it connected to it just fine. I did the Network Reset (thanks for this, I don't know why I never consider it). For clarity, I didn't do the Intel part of the fix - I did the first part that is about getting rid of the the wifi hotspot settings out of the registry (again, I don't recall ever using my laptop as a wifi hotspot to trigger all this). I have had some form of update since the one that seemed to trigger this and it didn't change anything.

Windows 10, my other/normal adapter is a Broadcom, is up to date and shows no issues. I would appreciate any ideas and help, as Googling the issue hasn't helped.
REMOVE MICROSOFT VIRTUAL MINIPORT ADAPTER MOVIE
I'm not sure why this new adapter appeared on my computer or why it was designed to return like a horror movie villain, but here I am, and it is getting pretty annoying having to uninstall every day. I have attempted the fix here a couple of times with no permanent result. Long story short, if I disable/uninstall Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter (there are often more than one, and some may be hidden) then I am able to connect to wifi, usually after switching wifi on and off or restarting.Īs it seems is common with this issue, when I shut down and start up again, the issue starts all over again.

Connections are showing, including my own, but it tells me it is unable to connect. Firstly, I have tried searching for a solution to this on here and didn't find anything, so forgive me if I missed anything.Įssentially, for a couple of weeks now (following a Microsoft update) I have no wifi when I start up my laptop.
